WINTER IS COMING

If you would have told me that I would be reading Game of Thrones and enjoying it I would not have believed it. I am a very sensitive person when it comes to violence and graphic scenes so when I started reading avidly again it was never in my mind to pick this one up. However after watching the first season on a whim I decided it was too graphic for me and I thought I would try the books. I am so happy I decided to read the books, the books are way less graphic than the tv show and far more enjoyable. And now that I have finished my rant about tv show vs book comparison here are my thoughts. Game of Thrones is an epic series set in Westeros following a diverse cast of characters and the complex conflicts that surround them. This book is the perfect combination of character development that you grow attached to them and plot driven that you cannot put it down. It is very well explained and everything that confused me in the tv show was perfectly explained in the book. This book is multiple perspective and this format does not bother me at all, I love to see everyone´s perspectives because we all experience things differently and through each perspective you get to grow more attached to the characters. My favorite perspectives were Ned Stark, Daenerys and John´s they show a combination of humanity, strength and honor. The world that George R.R Martin created had me hooked, and the way he writes makes you feel like you are there with the characters. He gives us magic, politics, amazing and complex characters, religions, family dynamics and history. The reason I took one star was because it took me way too long to read and I lost interest for a while however it recaptured my attention right away. However, I do think that if I haven’t watched the tv series first I would have gave the book 5 stars. Some moments were indeed more epic in the tv show but I wouldn’t trade the book, because even though they were more epic the emotional impact is greater in the books. Overall I would truly recommend this book, I would recommend for you to read it if the tv show is too graphic for you or if you have watched the show and want to know more about the world of the characters.
