“I guess that’s any relationship. You start with nothing and maybe end with everything”
I bought this book purely because of the hype it received on booktube and goodreads and after reading it I understand why people like it so much. Unfortunately I did not fall in love completely with the book however I was still pleasantly surprised and deeply enjoyed my reading experience.
In What if it´s Us we follow Arthur, who believes that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. We also follow Ben, who thinks the universe needs to mind its business. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?
Like I said, I really liked this book, I have always been a firm believer in the universe and how things are meant to be, so it was exciting to see it in the story. The beginning of the story is a bit slow, the meet-cute is adorable but from that moment until they find each other again it was quite boring to read honestly. The rest of the book is good, it is a bit awkward but I think that is expected from a couple of teenage boys.
The characters were okay for me, on one part we have Arthur whom I adored, I really related to him and although he sometimes acted a bit childish it still worked for me. On the other hand, we have Ben, who honestly annoyed me, he kept comparing Arthur to his ex and made dumb decision after another. However, the best character of the book is Ben´s best friend Dylan, Dylan for me made the story fun, dynamic and overall worth it. (The real MVP)
Finally, the best part of the book by far, was the ending. The ending hit me like a truck, it felt realistic and raw. The way the authors decided to end the story made perfect sense to me and I really appreciate that they decided to make it plausible. I recently found out the sequel is coming out and I will definitely pick that book up as soon as it comes out.
Overall this was a solid contemporary romance novel about what it means to find love and whether or not the universe has a say with who we end up with.
