Two Nights in Lisbon

By Chris Pavone

4 stars

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.

I requested this book because lately I have been really into mystery / suspense novels and the description of this book intrigued me so much I knew it was going to be a book that was going to keep me on my feet (I was right). Two Nights in Lisbon is filled with intrigue, suspense, and a plot that will keep you up all night.

Two Nights in Lisbon is a riveting thriller about Ariel Pryce, who wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone―no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong.

This book was amazing, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I think it was a little bit too long for a suspense book. But non the less I loved this book. Throughout my reading experience I was sure I knew what was going on, multiple times I was positive I had it all figured out only to find out how wrong I was. However what I loved more about this book was that although the ending was unexpected it made sense, the author didn’t just put an ending that came out of nowhere, no, everything was backed up.

Another great thing was the characters, the main character Ariel was fantastic, I was able to connect on an emotional level with her and I understood why she was the way she was. Ariel´s background story is hard but she made the best of it and her love for her son was truly an adorable thing to read about. The secondary characters were great as well, it was truly terrifying to see the lengths people were willing to go in order to protect their secrets but they were perfectly portrayed.

Finally, the plot was fantastic, like I said even though it was a little long I was very intrigued most of the time. Chris Pavone manages to create an amazing setting, characters and he uses language that makes the story much more eerie. The book is set in Lisbon and I was able to perfectly picture it, the characters are unreliable which makes the story much more thrilling and the plot was thickly layered with twists at every turn that had you guessing what was coming next.

Overall this is a great mystery thriller novel about secrets and how far we are willing to go to bury them. This is a stunning and sophisticated suspense novel that will have you second guessing yourself and will leave you in shock once you get to the end. This is the first book I have read from this author however it will certainly won´t be my last. Fantastic read.
