Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.
I received a copy of this book and I was immediately intrigued by the premise, it sounded like a fast paced, funny, easy to read romantic comedy and that is exactly what I got. I knew I was going to like this book but I never expected to love it so much. This book is funny, heartwarming and an adorable story about finding who we are and it became one of my favorite reads of the year.
In The Wedding Season we follow Freya Scott, who is getting married. Her wedding to Matthew, is the first of eight in her calendar this year. But when Matthew calls things off hours before they walk down the aisle, Freya’s entire life plan goes up in smoke. Humiliated and heartbroken, the last thing she wants is to attend a summer of other peoples’ nuptials on her own.
Like I said I adored this book, I had the best reading experience and for sure this book became one of my favorites of the year. The Wedding Season is such an entertaining story, it is funny, witty and the characters are fantastic. Although there is romance in this book, I appreciated that it wasn’t the main focus of the book, the main idea is moving on. In the book we follow Freya as she tries to move on and grow after her heartbreak, it is an empowering and heartwarming story and it felt real.
The Wedding Season, although it has plot, it is mostly a character based story, so let’s talk about the characters. First of all Freya, I adored her, she is flawed, funny, a little obsessive compulsive and I identified deeply with her. Sure some of her decisions were downright questionable, however, you can’t really expect all that much from someone who was just dumped the day before her wedding. Freya felt real, I truly believe I would act somewhat the same in the same situation, she is far from perfect, but she felt so real it was impossible not to love her. The secondary characters were great as well, specially Freya’s two best friends, oh boy did I have a good time with them. They are funny, and the friendship dynamics between the 3 of them were gold. I absolutely adored the characters, well except for Matthew, I hated him.
Although the main thing about this book are the characters and their growth, the plot was still amazing, the wedding season survival guide was pure gold and I had the best time following Freya as she tried to complete all the fun and stupid challenges. The book is big for a contemporary romance, however, I flew through this book, I couldn’t put it down, I was having so much fun I never paid any attention to the actual length of the novel.
Overall The Wedding Season is an outstanding romantic comedy about what it means to move on and finding ourselves in the process. This is the first book I have read by this author but it will certainly won’t be my last. I laughed, I cringed, I got angry and all of that made my reading experience magical. I would totally recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a heartwarming, funny story that starts by “being left at the altar”.
