Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.
When I was approached by the author to read and review this book I have to admit I was a bit nervous. I don’t usually tend to read a lot of fantasy books, I have a hard time trying to understand everything that is going on in the world but the premise of the Shadow of Theron sounded good enough for me to get over my fears and give it a go. Needless to say I ended up loving this book and for sure I will continue on with the whole series.
In the world of The Shadow of Theron, magical relics are going missing and that can pose a great threat to the world as they know it. Lysandro knows that the magistrate of the town is responsible for this and he searches for proof disguised as the masked protector the shadow of Theron.
Like I said before, I absolutely ended up loving this book, the world building is very strong, the characters are developed, the plot is fast paced and interesting. The world Kathryn Troy created for this novel is outstanding, it was well structured and it all made sense. I do have to admit that in the beginning I had a hard time keeping up with who was who and what where the rules of the place however once I got the hang out it, it was pretty easy to follow.
This book has so many characters (I wished the author had put a cheat sheet at the end) we have Lysandro as the main character who for me was fantastic, Lysandro is brave, strong and an absolute adorable man. I was really able to connect with him and I really enjoyed being able to see him grow up to the man he was supposed to be. For me one of the best things an author can do is to get me to hate the villain or the antagonist, that for me, means that the author did a great job in terms of the writing style. This holds true for this book, oh how I hated Marek, I cringed everything I read about it and by the end I was so over him. My repulsion towards Marek goes to show how well written this book is. The secondary characters are great as well and for me they all had enough backstory for me to be able to care and connect with them.
The plot of this book is fast paced and filled with twist. I loved how fast the story goes and every time I picked this book up I didn’t want to put it back down. The author has a fantastic way of giving us enough details to keep us on our toes but still have us guessing about how it is going to end till the very last pages. My only complaint about this book has to be the length, this book is LONG, its over 500 pages, and even though I really enjoyed this book I think it could have worked just as well with about 100 pages less.
Overall The Shadow of Theron is an action packed fantasy novel about love, betrayal, and destiny. Thank you Kathryn for sending a copy my way and I can’t wait to continue on with the rest of the story.
