“How trash is what people are who put dirt on the heads of their friends and make them feel ashamed”
This book has been in my TBR for years and after randomly selecting it from my TBR jar I decided to give it a go. After reading it I feel very dumb from not reading what this book was about years ago because just from the premise I would have known I would have loved this book.
In the One and Only we follow 33 year old Shea Rigsby who has spent her whole life in Walker, Texas where everything she does revolves around football. Shea is too devoted to her hometown team to ever leave or aspire to something else but when an unexpected tragedy hits the community Shea is forced to reconsider if the life she has chosen is good enough for her.
I really enjoyed this book, even though it is a 500 page book I was able to fly through it, the writing is nice and simple and it allows you to be immerse in the story while not feeling like it is too dense. Of course one of the big things that I liked most about this book was the hole American Football aspect of it. You don’t have to be a die-hard fan of football to read this, but, if you are, it really allows you to be more immersed in the story. I understood everything Shea was talking about and I loved it.
This was my first Emily Griffin book but it definitely won´t be my last. I love her writing style and her story ideas and the execution.
The reason I took one star was because of the characters, I had trouble connecting to most of them and I found them to be unlikeable and unrelatable. Lucy was such a control freak that she drove me nuts. Shea drove me insane with her lack passion for her personal life, she was willing to live in misery as long as she had football. Coach Car was okay for me, and Lucy´s husband, who appears in like 5% of the book, was my absolute favorite character so I think that speaks a lot.
Overall I truly enjoyed this book, it was a fast paced, football filled forbidden romance so I was definitely going to love it. I would definitely recommend picking Emily Griffin´s books if you are looking for a fast, easy read that will leave you feeling happy and in love, then her book are definitely for you.
