Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.
Romance novels are a comfort read for me so when I received a copy of this book I knew it was going to be straight up my alley. I have read a lot of romance novels in the last few years so finding fresh romance novels that do something completely new are hard to find and although this book didn’t do this for me I was still able to deeply enjoy the story and actually want to pick up the next books in the series.
In The House of Sunshine Corner we follow Abby Egel, who has a great life, she´s the owner of Sunshine Corner; she has the most adoring grandmother; and she lives in a perfect hidden gem of a town. All that's missing is the thing she wants the most: a family. But after a stint of online dating and a string of bad blind dates, she's ready to give up. And then her ex-boyfriend walks back into town...
I really enjoyed this novel, the idea wasn’t new however the execution was excellent. I really like second chance romance novels, I like that because the characters already know each other it doesn’t feel rushed or insta-love. The story is well developed in this book and the progression makes sense. The pace is excellent for a romance novel, it doesn’t fell rushed but it also goes straight to the point so there is no unnecessary details that make this story too long.
This book is character based, there is a plot line but the main focus are the characters. We first have Abby, I really liked Abby I admire her determination and how focused she is to achieve her dreams, it is truly inspiring to read about her and her ambitions. We then have Carter, although I did ended up liking his character, Carter felt a little but too much of cliché to me, Carter is the perfect definition of a bad boy that turns out is actually a good boy. The secondary characters are fantastic as well, Abby´s friends are so supportive and it is very heartwarming to see their friendship dynamics, however the true MVP of the book is Abby´s grandmother, she is funny, witty and she ended up being my favorite character of the book.
The setting in this book is fantastic, I’m a sucker for books set in small towns and this book delivered that perfectly. I love reading about small business trying to succeed, a small community that feels like family and a place where everyone knows each other. The author managed to perfectly describe what life is like for the characters and through her writing style I was able to picture myself inside the story. Beautiful yet simple writing style that allows you to connect with both the story and the characters.
The House on Sunshine Corner is a very sweet second chance romance novel that has basically everything, love, loss, family, and dreams. I ended up really liking this book and I will definitely continue on with the rest of the series.
