Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.
When I received a copy of this book I knew I was going to like it solely based on the fact that this is a book about books. I absolutely love books that talk about libraries and bookstores and everything related to books so honesty it is no surprise that I ended up loving this book.
In The Bookshop in the Corner we follow Nina, a librarian who just lost her job and determined to make a new life for herself, moves to a village in Scotland. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile—a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.
Like is said I absolutely loved this book and I am convinced that nothing would make me happier than to work at a bookstore, so Nina was basically living my dream. The setting of the story is fantastic, the author did a great job in portraying both the hectic life in a city and the calm and peaceful atmosphere in the countryside. You get enough details to picture perfectly what life is like and you end up feeling like you are there alongside Nina. The setting of this book can only be described as cozy and lovely to read about.
The characters are fantastic, first of we have Nina, Nina was such a great character and although in the beginning of the book I didn’t like her very much she ended up growing and learning a lot and by the end of the book I was really invested in her and her business. Although Nina is the primary character, the secondary characters are fantastic as well, we have a grumpy farmer who turns out has a very big heart, a train conductor that just wants to be happy and Nina´s best friend who for me was the best character in the whole book, she was extremely funny and realistic and I had a great time following her mini adventures throughout the story.
This is the definition of a feel good story, the plot is not very fast but it was so wholesome it was just what I needed. I loved every aspect of this book, from moving to a new city, to meeting new people, to opening a new business all on your own. I do have to admit that the love triangle was not my favorite aspect of the book but I am able to move past it because all the other aspects of the plot were fantastic.
Overall, The Bookshop on the Corner is a feel good story about following your dreams, taking risks and finding what makes you happy. This is a quick and easy read, it is very light hearted and witty and I would recommend for everyone who loves books about books to pick it up.
