"Never Land is a… mishmash of us. Of me. It is what we imagine and dream of"

For those who know me they are aware of my never ending obsession with Disney so when I found out there was a series about Disney movies with a twist I was immediately dying to read them all.

On Straight on Till Morning we follow the story of Peter Pan, or in this case specifically, Wendy as we are faced with the question of What if Wendy first travelled to Never Land with Captain Hook instead of Peter Pan?

I was really impressed with this retelling, I was expecting to read the story of Peter Pan with just a few minor changes but this story is different all together. And although I am not sure which story I like more, this was still a very interesting, action pack and thrilling adventure story.

The characters in this book even though they have the same names as in the original story, their personalities are a bit different. At first I wasn’t sure if these new personalities were going to work but in the end I think the new personalities are better, especially talking about Tinker Bell.

My favorite part of the book was the feminist, empowering concept of it. In this story Wendy and Tinker Bell are the heroes and not Peter Pan, and even though we still see some of Peter´s heroic actions, he is not the main character of the story. Moreover, the theme of growing up was very impactful in the story. When I was little I couldn’t quite understand why would Wendy choose to grow up but now I understand and relate to it and I think the author did a great job exploring those feelings of uncertainty.

Overall, this was a great Peter Pan retelling, I loved being immersed back in Never Land and follow Wendy and Tinker Bell and they go on exciting new adventures, meet all kinds of creatures and try to save Never Land while exploring what it is like to grow up. I can’t wait to read more of the twisted tales and be back in some of my favorite stories of all time.
