Murder, She Wrote

The Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie

4 stars

The first Agatha Christie book I read was a gift from my dad and ever since them I have been obsessed with her books specially the Hercule Poirot series so I jump at every chance I have to read one of her books.

In this book we follow Hercule Poirot as he is summoned to France after receiving a letter with an urgent cry for help just to find out that the person who summoned him, is now dead.

Like most of Agatha Christie´s books, this book was fast paced (I read it in two days), entertaining and very atmospheric. The characters are great, I adore Hercule Poirot, I admire how clever he is and how you never know what he is thinking or what he is going to do next. However in this book I did have a little bit of trouble connecting with Hastings. Hastings was a bit annoying for me tbh.

This book is amazing and even though it was written so many years ago, this book, as most of Agatha´s work, stood the test of time. I actually had goosebumps while reading this, it was very atmospheric and the writing was outstanding. There were so many times I thought I had it all figure out just to find out how wrong I was. I did not see the plot twist coming, but now that I think about it the author does hint at the plot twist since the beginning, which even though it was right in front of me I wasn’t able to call it.

Overall, this was a solid, amazing Agatha Christie book that I enjoyed reading. It kept me intrigued and had me guessing everything. The only reason I took one star was because of Hastings, oh boy was he annoying, he kept saying or doing stupid things that had my eyes rolling and I frankly couldn’t believe how someone as smart and clever as Hercule Poirot would allow someone like him to help him solve murder cases.

I cannot wait to read more from Agatha Christie because I am blown away by how good and intricate the plot is, and even though you never see the end coming, in the end, after you think about and put you grey cells to work, it all makes sense.
