The first Agatha Christie book I read was a gift from my dad and ever since them I have been obsessed with her books specially the Hercule Poirot series so I jump at every chance I have to read one of her books.
In Murder in Mesopotamia we follow Amy, a nurse who agrees to look after American archaeologist Dr. Leidner’s wife Louise at a dig near Hassanieh, but she finds herself taking on more than just nursing duties – she also has to help solve murders.
Like most of Agatha Christie´s books, this book was fast paced (I read it in two days), entertaining and very atmospheric. The characters are great, I adore Hercule Poirot, I admire how clever he is and how you never know what he is thinking or what he is going to do next. The other characters are great as well, I specially loved nurse Amy and Louise. Most of the secondary characters are kind of annoying but I guess that is the point, that you hate almost everyone that you suspect them all.
This book is amazing and even though it was written so many years ago, this book, as most of Agatha´s work, stood the test of time. I actually had goosebumps while reading this, it was very atmospheric and the writing was outstanding. There were so many times I thought I had it all figure out just to find out how wrong I was. I did not see the plot twist coming, but now that I think about it the author does hint at the plot twist since the beginning, which even though it was right in front of me I wasn’t able to call it.
Overall, this was an outstanding, amazing Agatha Christie book that I enjoyed reading. It kept me intrigued and had me guessing everything. I cannot wait to read more from Agatha Christie because I am blown away by how good and intricate the plot is, and even though you never see the end coming, in the end, after you think about and put you grey cells to work, it all makes sense.
