Masochist, n. if there wasn’t a word for it, would we realize our masochism as much?

Ever since I read Every Day I have been obsessed with David Levithan´s work and that is why when I saw this book on Scribd I immediately started reading it.

In this book we follow a dictionary that has words with every letter of the alphabet that can be use one way or another to describe love. In this book the author manages to construct his own love story around these certain words.

I really like the concept of the book, I think David Levithan is an extremely creative writer because he comes up with ideas that are so new and fresh, however even though I loved the concept of this book I was extremely disappointed in the execution. I was confused about the pacing, we didn’t follow a regular timeline in this book, we jump from one place to another depending on the words the author was using next. I understand this is the concept of the book, however, I still had a hard time trying to make the story make sense because we would have a positive story, then a negative and so on.

The thing I really liked was that this was based on the author´s true love story, I think that was very powerful and very raw and I applaud David Levithan for allowing us to see him so naked. I think what I enjoyed the most was how honest he was, how he put no filter on his emotions and said “this is my love story”. If you are expecting a cheesy love story from this book, don’t read it. This is an interpretation of an actual relationship including all the ugly ups and downs.

Taking all of this into consideration I still very much enjoyed it, like I said, the idea is brilliant and although I had some troubles with the pacing I really believe the author was able to capture the essence on love in such a sort book.
