Marriage can be Murder...

Dead to Her

By Sarah Pinborough

5 stars

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way. I received a free copy of this book and I put it off for quite a bit because I kept hearing mixed reviews about this book, however this book was the perfect example as to why we should never pre judge a book because I ended up loving it. In Dead to Her we follow Marcie, who’s affair with Jason Maddox catapulted her into the world of the elite. Then Jason’s boss brings back a new wife, young, attractive, reckless — nobody can take their eyes off Keisha. Including Marcie’s husband. Some people would kill for the life Marcie has—what will she do to keep it? When I first started reading this book I thought it was going to be a boring domestic thriller about rich people but in fact this was so much more. This was a brilliantly plotted and richly layered novel filled with secrets, mysteries, black voodoo magic and overall it was outstanding. The beginning of the novel is a little slow, we are introduced to the characters one by one and we get to see who they are, their motivations and their personality. In the beginning, the plot seems very straight forward, you think you have it all figured out and it gets a little boring. However, by the middle of the book you realize that everything you thought was wrong and all of a sudden you can´t put the book down. The second half of the book is thrilling, exciting and filled with plot twist that you don’t see coming. The setting in Savannah´s high society is interesting and unique, I had never read anything like it. At times the story gets a little messy, but when all the points are connected you are blown away by the story the author managed to create. This novel has it all, love, revenge, jealousy, envy and high society energy. I have to admit that I did not see the ending coming, it took me by surprise and honestly it left me a little unsettled. Overall, I am glad I gave this book a chance, it was a thrilling, domestic suspense novel that honestly left me wanting a sequel. If I had to describe this book in one word it would be twisted in the best way possible. If you are looking for a psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat, this is the book for you.
