I got this series a year ago as a gift from my mom and I didn’t know what it was about. I started reading the first book without knowing I was starting one of my favorite series of all time and that I was going to finish reading all three of them in less than a week.
In this series we follow Mara Dyer as she wakes up in the hospital with no memory of how she got there only knowing that her friends are dead and she was the sole survivor.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer 5 stars
When I started reading I did not expected it to have some strong paranormal creepiness. I definitely couldn’t read this book at night. The plot was extremely interesting and had me hook since page 1. The characters are very well written and I love the way the author writes that allows you to be immersed in the story.
I really wasn’t expecting to like this that much specially since I am so late to the party and this book was popular almost 9 years ago. So the fact that I liked it so much is proof that these books stand the test of time.
I agree that it was a little bit of insta-love, however that fact that we got a scientifical explanation later on has to why they fell in love so quickly was enough for me to be onboard with.
The Evolution of Mara Dyer 5 stars
This book is an amazing continuation to the series. I think this is my favorite book of the series by far and this definitely doesn’t suffer from second book syndrome. This was amazing and after finishing it I was even more excited to read the third and final book.
This book definitely gave me more questions than answers but it gave me enough to be super pump to read the last installment. This book took everything I loved about the first one and amplified it. This book was better, it was scarier, it was creepier, it had higher stakes and I was here for it.
The action was fast paced and kept me on my toes, the romance was sweet and I kept shipping them, the side characters are greatly developed and the plot twist had me up all night. This book was addicting. I could not put it down, I read while taking my online classes (probably shouldn’t have done that) I read while eating, I read while doing other things. I could not put it down.
For me this is the best book of the series and it was exciting to see that a series that was popular almost 9 years ago passes the test of time and became one of my favorite books.
The Retribution of Mara Dyer 4.25 stars
This book was a solid conclusion to the series, however after book two which was spectacular I was a little underwhelm with this one. The plot twist were good but they didn’t pack a punch like previous ones and the overall resolution was fine but I wanted to be blown away and I was just left wanting more in the bad way.
The plot was extremely interesting and had me hook since page 1. I was frustrated with Mara, I wanted her to be okay and I felt her frustrations as my own. However, I was annoyed with her in this one, she felt whiny and wanted to be a victim and I did not appreciate how she thought it was okay to lose control like that and start killing people with no remorse.
I still adore the series and the characters and I still believe it is an amazing series that stands the test of time however, compared to the second book that in my opinion was a masterpiece this book fell a little short in my opinion. But as you can see from my rating I still loved this book and I am sure this series will definitely become one of my favorites of all time.
