I Know Who You Are

I know who you are by Alice Feeney

3 stars

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.

I have recently discovered that I tend to really enjoy thrillers, so when I was approached to read and review this book I jumped at the opportunity right away. When I started reading this book I was instantly drawn into it, unfortunately, by the end of it, I was not impressed, a bit uncomfortable and overall feeling very neutral about my reading experience.

In I Know Who You Are we follow Aimee Sinclair, the actress everyone thinks they know but can’t remember where from. When Aimee comes home and discovers her husband is missing, she doesn’t seem to know what to do or how to act. The police think she’s hiding something and they’re right, she is.

Like I said, the beginning of this book had me hooked, I read the first 100 pages in one day, I was so invested in Aimee and her story I just wanted to find out who was messing with her. However, when the big plot twist is revealed I felt so underwhelmed it was hard to enjoy the reading experience after that.

I have to admit that this book is packed with cliff hangers and plot twist it’s hard to put down. This book is written in dual timeline where we follow Aimee when she was a little girl and in present time. The timeline of Aimee´s childhood is dark and twisted and it really has you on your toes, not know what is going to happen next. The modern day timeline is more of a whodunnit type of mystery and it was fast paced and action packed.

The writing style is good, the author is a great thriller writer and has the ability to keep your attention and be on guard for the next big plot twist. The characters are also excellent, they are not likeable characters by any means but in the end I believe that is the purpose. I did not like any of the characters, but I was not meant to like any of the characters, they are meant to be flawed and twisted, and that was definitely portrayed in this story.

Like I mentioned, everything was going perfect until the last big reveal, the ending was rough, it honestly made no sense, made me a bit uncomfortable and I thought the author could have done more. The ending felt like the author just decided to go with the most shocking scenario even if it made sense or not. I was so let down by the ending, that all my enjoyment of the rest of the book felt weak in comparison.

Overall, I Know Who You are was a book with a great premise and an excellent beginning that unfortunately felt a little short by the end. I was still intrigued enough to give this author´s other books a chance and hope that the other endings match the solid beginnings.
