When I started reading this book I was nervous, everyone seems to love it so I had such high expectations I was afraid I was not going to love it as much. I am happy to say that this book deserves all of the hype and more. This book is a masterpiece.
In Radio Silence we follow Frances, who has been a study machine with one goal. Nothing will stand in her way; not friends, not a guilty secret – not even the person she is on the inside. Then Frances meets Aled, and for the first time she's unafraid to be herself.
This book is heartwarming and it just makes you feel cozy inside. This is a lovely story about finding your own path, about what it is like when you brain and you heart don´t agree on what´s best for you. The way the author writes its absolutely breathtaking, this book is over 400 pages long and I still flew through it because of how engaged I was.
The characters are extremely well written, you get to feel empathy towards them, you suffer with them and you feel happy with them as well. Frances Janvier is my favorite character and I believe this is because I relate so much to her (believing school is the most important thing and all). Aled Last made my heart go soft, throughout the book I grew attached to him and I just wanted him to be happy, I wanted him to know that everything was going to be okay.
I am an avid romance reader, but let me tell you how refreshing it was too see a platonic friendship. Frances and Aled never fall in love, we know that, so following them through their friendship and how they come to care for each other is a beautiful representation of what a friendship should look like.
This book covers all sorts of topics varying from mental health, academic performance, emotional abuse, anxiety and most importantly friendship. I believe this is the most realistic, well-written YA book I have ever read and I truly believe that the thing we should take away from it is, do whatever makes you happy.
Overall I feel like I grew while reading this book, I have for sure found one of my favorite books and I can believe it took me so long to read. If you haven’t had a chance to pick this book up, please do. It is a masterpiece.
