Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.
Molten Fire and Ash is a collection of intense poems. Divided into 3 sequences, Heat, Fuel and Oxygen this work remarkably summons themes on self-reflection, fatherhood, politics, mental health, and family values.
I really enjoyed this poetry collection and I think especially in current times it is extremely important that we read books like this one. The poems are short but powerful and the author is able to make you feel things in just a few sentences. I have not read any other book by this author but after reading this one I was left wanting to read everything he ever publishes.
I was a bit confused at times, especially in the beginning, that is why I took a star because even though this is such a short book it takes time to be immerse in the writing. However, once I was hooked I couldn’t stop reading what was left of the collection. My favorite part was the last one, oxygen, for me that was the strongest and most inspiring of the 3 parts.
I do believe it is a little hard to understand the politic poems especially if you are not from the United States, however, even though I am not from the United States I try to keep up with what is going on in the world currently so I was able to understand and connect with most of his poems.
Overall I believe this is a solid poetry collection, I think the writing is outstanding and the topics it touches upon are very important, especially now a days. I have to admit I was left wanting more because this collection is really short and so important I wouldn’t have minded if it was a little longer. I think everyone should read and understand this and I am so grateful the author allowed me to read and review this powerful piece of work.
Thank you Clarence Barbee for allowing me to read and review your collection.
